Blog Etiquette Question

Laurie Ann on the Stashquilts group asked this question and I've been wondering about it too. When people post comments on our blogs, what's the proper way for the writer to respond? I sometimes wait a day or so and go back and respond to my own post with responses to the questions posed by others but I'm not sure anyone goes back several days to read. Most of the time when I have a question about someone's post, I forget about it after I've written and I probably never go back to see the response. But . . that could be because of this CRS I seem to have! :) I'm thinking I'll start putting my e-mail address at the bottom of my entry and if anyone has a question in which they'd like a response, they could send me an e-mail. I think I'll make a separate gmail account just for the blog just in case it gets picked up by spammers. But, is that defeating the purpose of the blog? I suppose if someone has an urgent question, and really wants an answer, they already know to send me an e-mail?? Thoughts?? Judy Send Judy E-mail

  • Judy,
Since I'm new to blogging, my answer is BEATS ME! I wondered about that too! I like the email idea. Now to figure out how to do it! ;)

  • Your profile already has your email address activated so you really didn't need to do that for the comments section.

I get an email in my box if someone writes a comment on my blog. You can activate that option in your settings section. If I want to answer it from my email, I delete the no-reply address and insert the regular address.

But, I have found that with my blog, people like to come back and read the comments and get a conversation going sometimes.

You could also have a general discussion on your stashquilt blog that everyone could comment on. You can also invite others to post an entry if you have given them an invitation as a team member.

  • Yeah, I think I'll just go back and answer questions like this (as an additional comment) and assume that if anyone really needs to ask a question and doesn't receive an answer, they can send me an e-mail.

Thanks Laurie & Deb for the responses.

  • I have email notifications so that comments are sent to my email. If the commenter has email notifications (you can put this in your preferences) the response will get back to them via email....otherwise, it's just no-reply@blogger.com and I hate to go fishing all the way back to the commented place to leave a public reply to a private comment. It would be great if people put email notification so we can reply privately when needed.

How other wise are people going to know to come back to the comments where they posted a week ago and find if you left a response?

  • I have wondered the same thing... I have replied as a blog, if the e-mail is in my account (I have all posts go to my e-mail account) and there is an address (Some have a no reply address) I occasionally reply there... I also occasionally reply when I post a comment on their blog....

It is ponderous to say the least...

  • just curious. .. .how did you figure that you could make 180 quilts out of your stash? did you have some "secret" formula? I think I have a big stash but I know I couldn't make that many quilts. What size are you estimating?

(although I made 4 large twins this Oct and didn't make a dent at all so I may have more fabric than I realize)

  • I've been wondering the same thing. I like to see the questions and answers on the blog, but sometimes when I get an email direct I'll answer it if I can without having to look up the email. Otherwise, I'll go back to the blog and answer it.

    It's a good question, I think.
