TV .. Who Needs It?

I am not ashamed to say that I really hate TV. I also do not like going to the movies at the theatre. Yes, I'm boring and it's a wonder I have a husband. Hopefully I'll never find the need for another husband but I'm betting if I did find myself in that position, there's not a man in this world that would be interested in being "Mr. Judy". Vince is such a special person to put up with me! :) Back to the TV. I think the main reason I don't like it is because I can't sit still for very long and even when I do sit still, my mind wanders and I miss important stuff being said and I have to keep asking . . who is he? what happened to her? why are they doing that? So, no one wants to watch tv with me. When I go to the movies (which happens way less often than washing my car!), the first thing I do is see when the next feature starts so I know the entire time how much longer I have to sit there. Anyway, Vince was talking to a friend yesterday and he was in a quandary about HD TV. Do you buy now? Do you wait? He asked Vince. Heck, we aren't getting a new TV. But, the friend says, in a few years, you're going to have to get a new TV because unless you have HD . . it won't work. Well, that makes it a very easy decision for me. Maybe we can finally get rid of ALL the TV's. Vince does keep the TV on all the time but he doesn't really watch it . . it's just on. I know there's not a chance we'd ever throw out all our TV's just because I don't like them but if, in fact, they aren't going to work anyway . . why keep them? Maybe I can convince him to just try it without TV's for a while and see how it is. Then, if he just has to have one, he can get an HD TV. What we'd save on the cost of Dish Network, I could use to buy fabric! :) The entertainment center in the living room would make a great storage area for my quilts!! :) Judy

  • Oh, Judy, this is FUNNY! And if we stop cooking, we could store fabric in the oven, and use that money, too :) Hmmm, lotsa possibilities here for household repurposing ...

  • Hi Judy, never thought of the entertainment center for quilt storage, but ya know? it sounds like a great idea!!

  • I thought I was the only one who didn't like to go to the movies. I figure if it's going to be out on DVD in 3 months and I can watch it in my jammies...why sit in a theater? I do make an exception for the Harry Potter movies. I don't want too much TV either...for the same reasons as you. I thought I was all alone....

  • I've only been to the movies once in the last 12 years. Don't miss it either!

Entertainment center quilt storage sounds great! Yeah, go for it!!

  • Judy, you make me laugh! I was contemplating a post this morning about what terrible parents my DH and I are. Yesterday we UNsubscribed to Dish Network. Our girls' lives are full of "woe and sorrow"...their words, not mine. My son used to tell me that he had to "watch the NEWS", which meant ESPN Sports Center.

Yes, we'll have grumbling for the next few days, but they'll get over it. I HOPE!

  • David insists we can't live without TV ... I disagree, and spend a lot of time in my little room, sewing and messing with the computer. It is ALMOST no man's land in here ...

For the record, he has a 42" HD TV, plasma. And, in the begining, it almost scared me, it was so life like. Bugs and snakes were too scarey for me!

  • Boy, I have a feeling that's going to be a "Nice try, Judy!":-)
TV's nice to do hand projects in front of, but I could probably get along without it -- don't take my music, though!

  • We mainly watch sports and movies on TV and it's a good time to knit or do hand work. My brother didn't want a TV for years and whenever he visited he would be glued to the set and wouldn't talk to anyone. Now he just reads the paper when he's visiting. LOL. Good luck getting rid of it.

  • LOL Judy! You crack me up!

  • I'm with you - I don't watch much TV at all! On the other hand I do watch movies on the DVD player. Much better than in the theatre - we hardly ever go to the theatre. Why? Well, when the movie is ont he TV I've got my hands full of appliqué. I absolutely cannot sit still without something to do with my hands. If I try I end up picking at and chewing on my hangnails - not a pretty site! So movies and baseball on TV is my excuse for sitting for hours doing nothing but handwork.

  • You and me both. I hate movies, hate TV. Just cannot sit still that long ! Emery and Vince must be patient men : )
